Fat Tuesday 2013 came fast and millions of people made their way to Louisiana to celebrate at all of the Mardi Gras parades. The second oldest parade in the state rolled Tuesday and it went off without a hitch, despite the rain.

It was a wet morning all over the state but out in New Roads the rain didn't seem to stop anyone from having a good time. It was the 91st anniversary of the New Roads Parade and people came from all over to join in on the fun.

Beads were being thrown and hundreds of kids were jumping for joy. The New Roads Mardi Gras Parade rolled down the streets in its 91st year.

The weather did not stop the thousands of people, including Russel Harris, from joining in the historic tradition.

"A day like today expecting some rain, if it rains we can run right under the porch for cover and still enjoy Mardi Gras as it passes by," says New Roads native, Russel Harris.

And to some, the New Roads Parade means more than just a Fat Tuesday celebration. Residents in New Roads say that Mardi Gras is more like a birthday party for not only the City of New Roads but for all of Pointe Coupee Parish.

For Alton Warr Sr., this year?s parade will be one he will never forget. "I was the king in 2003," noted Warr Sr.

And now, ten years later he's celebrating as his son walks in his shoes.

"It means the best feeling in the world ad anyone could have as your son follows in your footsteps as a king," says Warr Sr.

So natives like Russel Harris, will enjoy what?s left of Mardi Gras before the countdown until Fat Tuesday 2014 begins.

"Every year, I never miss it,? says Harris.? It's very exciting. It's the place to be during Mardi Gras time."

There was an all-time record this year with more than 50 floats on the route covering a 2 mile stretch. Also over 200 law enforcement officers from the across the state were in New Roads Tuesday morning to help with traffic, parking and safety.
